A pocket-sized edition of Guernsey's history from the prehistoric separation of the island from Europe to a modern financial centre.
Guernsey has always carefully navigated external threats and opportunities posed across both sides of the English Channel. This Norman island became closely connected to the English Crown in 1066, a connection that would be tested many times over the centuries, with autonomy being granted in 1204 as the price of loyalty.
The major test in the relationship came in 1940 when Guernsey was invaded by Nazi Germany. After the collective suffering of occupation came liberation, and with it a drive for renewal and reinvention, transforming Guernsey into a modern, prosperous island ready to face the challenges of the 21st Century.
